dealkalization systems

Alkalinity in water is the increase in pH due to carbonates and bicarbonates. Alkalinity is an important but more specific problem compared to water hardness. Alkalinity originates from carbonate and bicarbonate ions in water. Alkalinity removal is achieved through dealkalization process. In the textile industry, the alkalinity of the water to be used in dyeing (phenolphthalein alkalinity) should ideally be around 60-80 mg/L or below as the upper limit. Having higher values (for example, between 200-250 mg/L) starts causing various problems. pH fluctuations are the primary issues that arise.

So, when dyeing starts with water containing high alkalinity and no precautions are taken, various negative effects such as abrasion, haze, channel variations, white precipitates on the fabric, and many others occur due to dye diffusion. If this value exceeds 300-500 mg/L, the mentioned negative effects become more pronounced.
