What it does: Disk diffusers are products designed to meet the oxygen needs of microorganisms during the aeration process used in wastewater treatment plants. Diffusers support the biological treatment process by releasing air into the water in the form of fine bubbles. Thanks to their disk-shaped design, they can distribute air over a large surface area, which increases oxygen transfer efficiency.
Operating principle: Disk diffusers are devices designed to meet the oxygen needs of microorganisms during the aeration process used in wastewater treatment plants. Disk diffusers use air produced with the help of a blower. This air is delivered to the water through diffusers located at the bottom of the pool.
The dissolution of air in the water is ensured, thus reaching high levels of oxygen solubility in the wastewater. This serves an important function for treatment efficiency. A high level of microorganisms is required for the purification of water. These microorganisms need nutrients and high concentrations of oxygen to reproduce. Disk diffusers support the development of microorganisms by providing this oxygen.
With the development of microorganisms, the organic matter in the wastewater decomposes biologically. This process contributes to the cleaning of wastewaters. EPDM material is generally used as the membrane material in disk diffusers. Silicone or Teflon-coated EPDM alternatives can also be used depending on the wastewater characteristics. Plastic materials are generally glass-reinforced polypropylene.
One of the most important features of disk diffusers is their high tear resistance and flexibility. Their high elongation potential is one of the factors that differentiate this type and extends the membrane’s service life. Additionally, pressure losses are at very low levels, which reduces operating costs and increases energy efficiency.
